Ten Good Reasons to Call Careful Movers

There are a lot of things that you can do yourself. You can tie piano wire around your teeth, dig away a stubborn leak, or wind up in jail by representing yourself in court. You can also break your back trying to move a fridge up a flight of steps. All of these lessons in DIY living are available to you, free of charge. However, sometimes, it’s best just to call a professional.

Here are ten good reasons why you should call Toronto movers as opposed to doing the move yourself.

  1. Calling your friends to help you move means that you’ll have to help them move their crap someday too. This means your dreadful moving day has just multiplied like gremlins at a water park.
  2. You are much more likely to break your own things than anyone is to break yours. It might be a subconscious thing, maybe it’s your mind telling you to get new glasses.
  3. Tying a mattress to the roof of your car will only a. send you flying through the air if the wind picks up or b. lock the passengers in, so if you drive off a cliff or something, no one will be able to escape once you hit the water.
  4. You don’t like wrapping Christmas presents. So why would you waste an afternoon wrapping dishes. It no make sense.
  5. You use moisturizer on your hands. Let’s face it, you’re not the moving type.
  6. The expression ‘deader than a doornail’ never made sense to you, mostly because you’ve never seen a doornail, let alone a living one.
  7. You’ve never driven anything bigger than a Mini.
  8. Assembling bed frames and furniture is not your strong suit. Your IKEA bookshelf looks more like a desk.
  9. You find sweat kind of gross.
  10. There are a lot more fun things you could be doing on a Saturday afternoon than humping ottomans up the steps (as exotic as that sounds).

How do you know when it’s time to move?

When you first moved in to your Toronto apartment, you thought you had hit the big time. You were right downtown, and your two-bedroom was all you needed. You could stumble home from the clubs and make it to work before your hair dried in the morning. Your friends back in the suburbs secretly hated you and you openly loved it, taking pictures of your swank address and putting them on Facebook, along with pictures of Mr. Socks.

Then you got a boyfriend. Then you got knocked up. Suddenly you are looking around at the vast expanse of 800 square feet, and right about then two bedrooms for three people is looking kind of small.

When things are looking tight, and not in a good, double finger guns kind of way, it’s best to reassess your living quarters and determine if it’s time to move back to family-friendly suburbia. Here are a few clues that your Toronto apartment isn’t big enough for the three of you.

  1. You need to stand strategically in the shower as to not slip on plastic toys.
  2. Your couch has become a climbing gym.
  3. No one visits you anymore.
  4. You’re  going to the park five times a day just to get out of the house.
  5. The toys have won.

So if you’ve decided to bite the bullet and move into a home and you’re not up for wrenching your back or buying your friends pizza and beer and knowing you owe them a move, it’s time to call some Toronto Movers. Being a media-savvy savant yourself, you’ve seen them on Twitter and Facebook, and searching online they are the first Toronto moving company to come up on The Google.

The iPhone has changed the way we think about cell phones. Our phones are now portable entertainment systems, diaries, social media trackers, translators, cameras, and our personal secretaries. The same can be said of Point of Sale system. It will completely change the way you run your business. No more hand written receipts, confusion between departments or customer confusion. You will be able to track all your sales so inventory will be a breeze. Your employees will be accountable and potentially rewarded for their individual transactions. And best of all, you can monitor your business without having to be present.

Earthquake Preparations For Your Home

Campbell Care in Vancouver would like to share a few ideas about preparing your home for the earthquake that will eventually hit the western coast of Canada:

This week we saw the ultimate destructive power of the earth. We can do all we can to improve or lessen the damage we are inflicting on the environment, but, at the end of the day, there is nothing we can do to hold back a natural disaster on the scale that was seen in Japan.

What we can do is prepare ourselves and our homes for the nearly inevitable earthquake that will one day rock the Pacific Northwest. An excellent resource to help your family prepare is the Government of British Columbia’s Emergency Program website.

Detailed in the PSA is a note about making sure everyone in your home knows where the emergency gas shutoff valve is located. This is excellent advice.

It might also be in your best interest to have your gas lines inspected by a certified gas fitter. This will ensure your lines are up to a suitable standard.

Call Campbell Care to make an appointment for a full furnace and gas line inspection. Our qualified service technicians will do a detailed analysis of your Vancouver furnace and advise you on any areas that need immediate attention.

Secondary Suites Motion Scuttled

Are you a Calgary post-secondary student looking to move off campus? Are you a recent graduate in search of a modest starter dwelling? Are you starting a family and looking for a suite that is not in an apartment, but is not an entire house.

Secondary suites are the perfect housing option for you. Think basement suite or granny suite, or any self-contained living space located within or on the same property of a single family home.

These suites can provide a needed income for families living in homes that are too big for them to afford alone. They can supplement the amount that seniors receive through their pension or old-age fund. They can also provide parents with a viable living option for their offspring.

Currently these suites are only offered in some Calgary neighbourhoods. But a new motion was presented to City Council to make secondary suites legal in all of Calgary’s burrows. Unfortunately, the conservative opinion voted to deny the motion. Once again City Council decided to opt for more study into the matter, continuing a tradition of do-nothing, while turning a blind-eye.

The sad part of this tale, is that by doing nothing, secondary suites across Calgary will continue to be built with few standards in place to protect both the tenants and the landlords.

If you plan on moving into a secondary suite or plan on creating one in your own home, do your research first. Does the neighbourhood currently allow for them? What are the regulations? Is a second housing inspection needed? Find the answers at the City of Calgary website.

Happy with the results? Hire Careful Movers to move your furniture in the Calgary area.
