There are a few unwritten rules in the game of hockey. If you are a Don Cherry fan you will know a few of them. If you’re a player, you should know even more. He often snipes at those who disobey or disrespect the code of the game. He’s not the only one. Many players still leave and breathe by the coda of the Hockey Gods.

Don’t leave the game early.

Stick up for your team.

Respect the jersey.

Play your fourth line.

Not that we’re a fan of the Boston Bruins, but they have an ad campaign that is right on the money. In it, a giant brown bear takes out people talking on cell phones during the game, jumping the bathroom queue, and getting condiments and crap all over their Bruins jersey. Funny stuff. Here is a sample of the ads here.

Just like hockey players have an unwritten code, there is also one amongst moving companies. Toronto movers like Careful Movers always believe in doing their best work, being respectful, on time, and of course, careful.

So, go enjoy this awesome hockey! And watch out for the big mean bear.

Making a move often involves one annoying step: finding the boxes you need for a move.

Some people make a run down to the liquor store in hopes of getting a few wine boxes. Others make do with diaper boxes and even plastic bags. This is no way to move. There are boxes built for specific functions. You have tall wardrobe boxes, equipped with metal bar for hanging shirts and tailored pants without wrinkling them. There are small book boxes (you don’t want to fill these too much) as well as regular packing boxes.

For those not interested in finding the boxes they need, Toronto movers Careful Movers are now offering a special – free boxes with every move.

To find out more about the free box special, call (416) 310-7000

Social media is facing some legal scrutiny over freedom of expression. Continue reading →

These days, people run fast and furious with social media. They say what they please to the multitudes, often without any thought of the effects or consequence.

It’s a new medium, and with any fresh form of expression comes the eventual battle between freedom of speech and libel (or slander – the line is rather blurred in this case). Different countries have different laws, but it all becomes a jumble when it comes to the Internet, which knows no boundaries.

Case in point is the court battle between a certain soccer player and a reality TV star in San Francisco. Â The two allegedly had an affair, and now gossip of its happening has taken to the Interwebs via Twitter.

Can you say what you want? Even if the career and reputation of another is at stake?

The soccer player has been granted a so-called super-injunction, a stringent and controversial British legal measure that prevents media outlets from identifying him, reporting on the story or even from revealing the existence of the court order itself.

Despite this injunction, thousands of Twitterers have taken to the web to spread the story to the mainstream. A gag order is impossible in the modern era so it seems.

So the nameless soccer player has gone to court to release the names of the anonymous Twitterers than posted the story. This is where it gets sticky.

Eric Goldman, director of the High Tech Law Institute at Santa Clara

University, said, “It’s really going to the core of Twitter’s service and

trying to balance the speech of its users and the fact that countries have

different laws and norms about speech.”

Twitter is from the States, where the super-injunction holds no water. But still, the case itself presents an interesting president of where social media will go in the coming years, and how privacy will be ensured.

Careful Movers is getting into the swing of social media. We encourage you to follow us on one of our three Facebook accounts, or through Twitter. We promise to spread no news of your sordid affair, but we will help you move out, even if all your stuff is on the lawn.

Move over London. Toronto is the second best city for opportunity. Continue reading →

Toronto recently ranked #2 in the world, just behind New York City, in PricewaterhouseCoopers’ annual top 26 “Cities of Opportunity” poll.

So what makes Toronto movers and shakers some of the very best in the world, ahead of London, Hong Kong and Paris?

Toronto scored high marks because of its open-ended possibilities such as intellectual capital an innovation; health, safety and security; as well as demographic and livability factors.

Low crime rates, economic stability, and a strong education system also helped to boost Toronto’s status in the rankings.

New York was only a mere 31 points ahead of the much smaller Canadian powerhouse. With San Francisco trailing just 23 behind the Big Smoke.

All in all, it’s good news all around for the biggest city in Canada. In tough times, it makes you want to consider moving to the T-dot to perhaps start a business over there.

Toronto also comes in near the top of the report in affordable housing. It’s first for quality of living. It’s first for life satisfaction. It’s the kind of place quality employees want to be. It’s the kind of place where a business can thrive.

If Toronto office moving suddenly starts to sound like a possibility, it is important to consider a few other factors – who is going to move your business over there? And where are you going to relocate?

Toronto may be #2 in the world for opportunity, but it is #1 in the world when it comes to Toronto movers. Careful Movers can help you with your trip to the land of opportunity, ask us about our cross-country office moving discounts, and free boxes!

To find out more, contact Careful Movers at 416-310-7000

A local Ontario boy broke the record for Toronto Marathon on Sunday. Brendan Kenny of Dundas, Ont., finished the 2011 GoodLife Fitness Toronto Marathon on May 15th with the fastest time of 2:27:20.

More than 10,000 competitors from 40 different countries lined up at 8:00 a.m. to brave the cold and wet weather, but none were more determined to win than Kenny.

Last year, Kenny placed second, so he was thrilled to not only win, but to take the record in 2011.
